USC (21-9) is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014 and its first under second-year head coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
The Trojans posted their best Pac-12 record since that same 2013-14 season this year but then fell to Oregon State in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament which dropped them to a No. 8 seed.
USC is 29-14 in the NCAA Tournament all-time, including back-to-back NCAA title victories in 1983 and 1984.
South Dakota State (28-5) owns several big wins this year and enters the tournament riding a 21-game winning streak.
In the 15 years they have been eligible for the tournament, this is the Jackrabbits' 11th NCAA appearance. They breezed through the Summit League tournament with a 32-point average margin of victory.
This is the third all-time meeting between these two programs. They last met in 2006 when the Jackrabbits knocked off then-No. 19 USC, which was SDSU's first-ever win over a ranked opponent and first-ranked win of their time in Division I.
For USC to win this game they will likely have to break through the stellar SDSU defense. The Jacks have held opponents to 60 points or fewer in 11 of the last 12 outings and have posted a 20-point scoring margin in each of the last nine games.
