USC Women's Basketball: Incoming Freshman Commit Earns Massive Honor
Incoming USC freshman combo guard Juju Watkins continues to compile quite the pedigree even ahead of her first official game as a Trojan this fall.
The six-footer out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, who was considered the No. 1 prospect among the class of 2023, has been named USA Today's 2022-23 Girls Basketball Player of the Year, USC announced on its official Twitter page.
The 18-year-old commit has already been named named the Gatorade National Player of the Year and the Naismith Prep Player of the Year. She's also been a two-time California Ms. Basketball and a three-time LA Times Player of the Year across each of the past two seasons.
During her senior season with the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers, Watkins propelled the program to a 31-1 record while averaging 27.5 points, 13.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.7 blocks per contest.
Watkins has been open about hoping to win big at the next level, having told Eden Laase of Just Women's Sports that she's looking forward to helping the Trojans return to their championship ways. The USC women's hoops last won NCAA titles in 1983 and 1984.
“I hope to add some hardware, some championships,” Watkins said. “Just bringing USC back to what it was.”
We can only hope!
