USC Men’s Basketball: LeBron James Dedicates 21st NBA Season To Bronny
USC Trojans men's basketball freshman combo guard Bronny James is not yet be practicing with the team as he recuperates from a cardiac arrest over the summer, but the ever-optimistic 18-year-old out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth seems hopeful that he'll join his comrades on the court soon enough.
In the meantime, his dad, Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James, has revealed that he is paying tribute to his eldest son for the entirety of his 2023-24 season, his 21st in the league.
Per Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, James spoke at length during LA's NBA Media Day presser today about Bronny's health challenges. Following a brief stint at the Cedars Sinai ICU and further research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Bronny was found to have a treatable congenital heart defect. He's expected to at some point be able to resume playing basketball.
“Bronny is doing extremely well,” James said. “He has begun his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates and USC... If he were walked through the door right now,” James added, “you wouldn’t even know what he had.”
LeBron indicated that he would dedicate his sixth season with the Lakers to Bronny. The last time LA made a very public season dedication (to fallen Laker Kobe Bryant), the club wound up hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2020. Given the excellent team-building front office whiz Rob Pelinka has done since the trade deadline and through the summer offseason, it seems entirely possible that a deep Los Angeles club to reach the promised land once again.
