USC Basketball: Former Trojans Star Could Be Prime Trade Candidate This Season

Could he get a playoff contender over the hump?

Entering this new NBA season, the Chicago Bulls are one of the weirdest teams to predict. Many believe they will underperform again, but they have some star talent on the roster.

One of those stars is former USC Trojans forward DeMar DeRozan, who helps head up the Bulls. Chicago has been a middle-of-the-pack team for the last few seasons, and if they face another one, it could be time to blow it all up.

The first shoe to drop could be them moving DeRozan. ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst provided an update on the former Trojans star during a segment of First Take, and he believes that the Bulls could look to move him this season.

“One guy to keep an eye on, for everybody, the whole league, this year is DeMar DeRozan. If he doesn’t extend with the Bulls, I think he becomes a trade target as the season goes along.”

DeRozan has been with the Bulls for the last few seasons and said he would love to resign. But whether or not the Bulls are willing to pay DeRozan is the question.

He is 34 years old and may not be the top-tier player that he is now much longer. His athleticism is his biggest skill, and how much longer he can perform at this level remains to be seen.

If the Bulls don't start the season out strong, DeRozan becomes that much more of a trade candidate for teams. He could be the missing piece for some playoff team to take them over the hump, and he deserves to be on a winning team.

This will certainly be something to watch going forward, but DeRozan could be on the move this season. The Trojans faithful will be watching to see what happens and will support him no matter what team he goes to.
