USC Basketball: Pundit Suggests Bronny James Redshirts Freshman Season with Trojans
When assessing when immediate basketball future of incoming USC Trojans freshman Bronny James, there are still so many details unknown about his initial cardiac arrest and everybody should 100 percent continue to respect the space that his family has asked for for the time being. James' time at Sierra Canyon high school was monitored under a microscope as everybody wanted to tune in and see if he had the potential to ever match the incredible feats of his father, LeBron James.
However, now the only question really surrounding Bronny is whether or not he'll be able to healthily get back on the basketball court. USC men's basketball team embarked on their international trip to kick off their first exhibition matches with this new group and Bronny is back home getting opinions from the top doctors and experts.
Even though he was getting plenty of draft love heading into the 2023-2024 season, it may not be smart for him to immediately start playing at a high level again. The hope is that Bronny can be treated and monitored so no heart issues rise again but it may take time for medical experts to confirm that it's safe for him to suit up for the Trojans.
Therefore, draft expert Rafael Barlowe has suggested that maybe the 18-year-old guard should consider redshirting his first year at USC and aiming to come back for his sophomore season instead.
"If I had to make a bet," said Barlowe. "I would assume that he just uses this as a redshirt year, make sure everything is fine and then just resume a year later... that would be my suggestion."

Everything still remains up in the air as Bronny's family has yet to make a decision but even if he has to sit out this year, it would be amazing for him to fully recover and return for his sophomore year.
