USC Basketball: Trojans Come Alive in Dominant Victory Against Stanford
Where has this USC Trojans team been? While the Men of Troy have had themselves an up-and-down season so far, today's dominant win against Stanford showcased a hungry team.
The Trojans were all over the court and secured a 93-79 victory over Stanford. All starting five contributed fantastically to give USC the lead throughout most of the game.
Isaiah Collier led the way with 26 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Right behind him is Boogie Ellies, who brought down 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block.
Kobe Johnson also had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks.
DJ Rodman brought in 9 points, and Joshua Morgan had 4 points.
Right from the beginning of the game, it appeared as though the Trojans were playing with a fierceness we have not seen in a while.
They opened the game with 4/4 from deep, kicking off the type of tempo the rest of the game would contain.
Johnson was on a mission, flying all over the court to secure points, blocks, and rebounds.
The same can be said for Ellis, who was ensuring that the Trojans kept the pressure on Stanford.
At the half, the Trojans led 39-35, with Ellis securing 17 points.
The unfortunate aspect of the ending moments of the half was that it appeared Ellis injured his leg. He hobbled off the court holding the back of his leg.
After the half, Ellis would return.
The Trojans continued to secure big baskets, including a huge dunk from Vincent Iwuchukwu.
The Trojans looked in control throughout the entirety of the game. Even when they were storming the basket, they followed through for crucial and one buckets.
Despite the big win, both Ellis and Johnson appeared to be injured in the game. Ellis was hurt at the end of the first. He would eventually return to the game, but only to limp back out seemingly injuring the same leg.
Johnson also came down hard on what appeared to be his right hand. He would exit the game in the final few minutes.
The Trojans will have some time to rest before they take on Washington State on January 10.
