USC Football: Caleb Williams Grabs Spotlight as Best Prospect QB Since Stanford Star

Expecations are at an all-time high for USC's Heisman Trophy winner

We are 11 days away from the start of the 2023 season, Trojan fans. The expecations for USC will be immense, and all eyes will be on the Trojans as they look to avenge their failures of last season.

The season didn't go as planned toward the end, but it went well for their Heisman-winning QB Caleb Williams.

Williams took USC to new heights, heights they haven't reached in over a decade. He and head coach Lincoln Riley have brought the university back to where they belong, in the thick of a national championship race.

The school has benefited greatly from it, as has Willaims from an individual standpoint. Although Willaims is a team player, there is no denying his stellar play has garnered a ton of attention to number 13. So much so that he is widely considered to be next year's number-one pick in the NFL Draft.

That will certainly happen as he is set to take his game and school to another level. However, one NFL Draft analyst, Matt Miller, took things a step further, ranking Caleb as the best QB prospect in the past half-decade and saying he's the best QB prospect since Stanford QB legend Andrew Luck.

1. Caleb Williams (2024)

Williams is also coming from Lincoln Riley's scheme, which has produced NFL quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. There's a season of college football left for Williams, but right now, his star is shining brighter than any quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck (2012).

That is some major praise, but you can't argue that. It's warranted at the moment as Willaims is a Heisman trophy winner, something Luck didn't win, and is set to become the number one overall pick in 2024, similar to Luck, who went number one in 2012.

Willaims will most certainly be a franchise guy for an NFL team as an AFC scout compared him to Chiefs superstar QB Patrick Mahomes (once again).

"Every play is successful because he either throws on time or moves and makes it happen. He has that off-script [Patrick] Mahomes factor," one AFC scout said.

An NFL general manager is all in the Williams-hype train saying his game will translate easily to the next level.

"There's potential and then there's what he's done in a year and a half as a starter. He's not only the best quarterback in college, but he has the best of all the traits needed to be great."

The future number-one overall pick will need to prove everyone right with an amazing 2023 season the Trojans and Willaims will surely provide.
