USC Women's Basketball: JuJu Watkins Misses Out On 6th Straight Freshman Of The Week Award
Superstar USC women's basketball freshman wing JuJu Watkins' run of consecutive Freshman of the Week honors will end at five. Although we assume she'll start another streak soon enough.
Washington State University's Jenna Villa won the honor for the week ending December 18th, as the Cougars announced via their official Twitter/X account.
In helping guide WSU to a 95-48 win over Houston on Sunday, villa scored a career-best 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field (4-of-5 from deep) and 2-of-2 shooting from the free throw line, along with four rebounds and an assist. Her efforts seemed to help her ice the award.
To be fair, Watkins is averaging more points than Villa has yet to score in a game (26.8 on .494/.469/.750 shooting splits), along with 6.9 rebounds and 3.9 dimes.
The 6'2" guard/forward out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth has made quite the impression with the 9-0 Trojans thus far this season.
For her lone game of the week, in which she helped guide the Women of Troy to a 93-44 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Watkins scored 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out six dimes, blocked three shots and stole two balls.
