USC Women's Basketball: Trojans' AP Ranking Revealed
The Associated Press just released its latest poll compiling the top 25 women's basketball programs in the country.
The ranking of your still-undefeated USC Trojans (8-0) is identical to their ranking last week: sixth in the nation. The South Carolina Gamecocks (also undefeated, although they are 9-0 on the year) and USC's Pac-12 nemesis UCLA are Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
Lindsay Gottlieb's club also ranks 11th in SRS (Simple Rating System) thus far this season. Led by 6'2" freshman wing JuJu Watkins, a five-star recruit out Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, and 6'4" junior center (and LA native), the Trojans are looking likely to move well beyond the Round of 64 in this coming spring's March Madness.
The 6'2" Watkins is averaging 27.3 points on .506/.476/.724 shooting splits, seven rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. The 6'4" Marshall has already been named a 2022-23 All-Pac-12 honoree and a Pac-12 All-Defense inclusion. The junior big is averaging 14.3 points on 54.8% field goal shooting, 10 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.5 assists, and one steal per bout.
USC's streak seems likely to continue on Monday night, when the club will host the Cal State Fullerton Titans at the Galen Center.
