USC Women's Basketball: Trojans Set New Attendance Record At Galen Center

The tide is turning in the right direction for the Cardinal and Gold.

Your USC Women of Troy secured a huge W in more ways than one Sunday afternoon, when the Cardinal and Gold vanquished its crosstown nemesis the UCLA Bruins 73-65.

Thuc Nhi Nguyen of The Los Angeles Times reveals that the Galen Center's sellout crowd of 10,258 attendees set a new record as the biggest in the history of USC women's hoops. Nguyen notes that many of the Trojans faithful showed up long prior to the game's 2 p.m. start, at least as early as 9 a.m.

“This is the dream,” Gottlieb remarked, per Nguyen.

Nguyen notes that Watkins' No. 12 jersey was the preferred wardrobe of choice in the stands.

“I never would have thought that it would happen so quickly,” Watkins said.

Following the victory, Gottlieb spoke to the gathered crowd about the bigness of the moment.

“I’ll never forget this,” said.

While lying on the ground as attendant medical staffers helped her work on her leg cramps, an enthused Watkins addressed the USC fans with the school's trademark cheer.

“Fight on!” Watkins cheered.

USC will next head out on the road for bouts against two ranked Pac-12 rivals, the 19th-ranked Utah Utes and the fifth-ranked Colorado Buffaloes. The Trojans' next home game/opportunity to match this new record will arrive when they face off against the Washington State Cougars on Friday, January 26th.
