USC Women's Basketball: Former Record-Setting Trojan Sharpshooter Appraises New Roster
Legendary former USC Women of Troy sharpshooter Ashley Corral recently paid a visit to the current club. USC is now 3-0 on the young 2023-24 NCAA season, and is grappling with the weight of elevated expectations, thanks to the addition of No. 1 freshman recruit JuJu Watkins, a standout prospect at Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth.
Corral was an elite three-point sharpshooter in her days on campus, to the point where the 5'9" guard was the school's all-time leader in triples made (820) when she graduated after the 2011-12 season.
"Being back on campus at 'SC, there's no other feeling like it. I walked around campus today for a little bit, went into the bookstore, and it's just one of those things where you feel like you're at home. People always say, once you cross the street, you just get this warm feeling and that still happens ten years later."
"Watching practice today... I'm excited for this season. I feel like this team is coming together really well. Talking to the coaches, they're already really far ahead of where they were last year at this time. We've got some playmakers, we've got some shooters, and our bigs are good. I'm just excited. I feel like we guard really well. We play really hard on offense. The energy was good. Energy's everything. Culture's everything. Culture just seems to be back to where it used to be here."
In her career with the Cardinal and Gold, Corral averaged 12 points on .372/.395/.823 shooting splits, four rebounds, 3.2 assists and 0.7 steals per contest .
