USC Women's Basketball: Unstoppable JuJu Watkins Earns Big Accolade For 2nd Time

As well she should.

On the heels of her 51-point outburst against the Stanford Cardinal last Thursday (plus a solid 29-point night on Saturday against the California Golden Bears), USC's official X/Twitter account reveals that Trojans freshman shooting guard JuJu Watkins has been named the Associated Press National Player of the Week, making her one of only two players to earn the honor more than once this year (so far).

In the 67-58 victory against the Cardinal, Watkins collected her 51 points on 14-of-26 shooting from the field (6-of-11 from deep) and 17-of-19 shooting from the foul line. She also notched 11 rebounds, four steals and two dimes. Watkins scored her subsequent 29 points against Cal on 12-of-27 field goal shooting (2-of-8 from deep) and 3-of-3 shooting from the charity stripe, along with five assists, four rebounds, and two blocks.

Watkins, a 6'2" wing out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, has emerged as the best player on the tenth-ranked team in the nation. Her Trojans have gone 16-4 thus far this season (6-4 in Pac-12 play), and are angling for a deep March Madness run. Across her 19 healthy games, she has been averaging 27.3 points on .431/.353/.841 shooting splits, 6.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per bout.
