USC Football: Former Trojans Standout Offers Candid Remark On Team's Recent Play
Your USC Trojans are a top-10 team and currently possess an undefeated record, but there is no shortage of improvements that the team can make ahead of a gauntlet of tough games.
Caleb Williams and the offense struggled to get started in Saturday's triple-overtime win over the Arizona Wildcats, but the USC defense did the team no favors.
The team continues to struggle to tackle in the open field, allowing nearly 6.6 yards per play Saturday night. For the second straight week, the USC defense allowed a team to rack up over 500 yards.
The lack of improvement shown by the USC defense has some former Trojans expressing their concern.
"I really try my best to be positive and encouraging, but rewatching this game has be feeling second hand embarrassment," former USC safety Dion Bailey wrote in a Tweet Saturday night. "No USC defense should eve r put this kind of tape out. IF YOU CANNOT GIVE 100% EFFORT and TACKLE, YOU SHOULD BE STANDING BY THE COACH. Something has to give!!"

Bailey, who played for USC from 2011-13, finished his career with 223 total tackles, four sacks and 11 interceptions. He appeared in seven games in the NFL for the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks.
The Trojans will soon face a talented Notre Dame team at home, a Utah team that will have potentially welcomed back quarterback Cam Rising — with whom the USC defense is all too familiar, a Washington offense that might be the best in the country and an Oregon offense that might be even better.
In order for USC to realize its potential, which is a national championship contender, the defense must improve from a physicality standpoint.
