What has been going on with the Trojans?

In this story:

At long last, USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch was relieved of his duties this week following another horrible defensive showing in a 52-42 Saturday loss against the Washington Huskies.

USC dropped their third game of the season in the shootout, and enough was finally enough.

Head coach Lincoln Riley had refused to acknowledge the issues going on with the defense, and namely Grinch for quite some time. But with the Trojans now out of both the Pac-12 and College Football Playoff race, he must have felt it was the right time.

People have been calling for the firing of Grinch for a long time now, and it comes a little too late. The Trojans defense has been getting worse each week, and it even had former players calling out the schemes.

Former USC standout safety Su'a Cravens took to social media to express his concern about the USC defense, and to question what exactly was going on. He said that he had never seen some of the coverages that were being run, and it was a shock to him

This is an awful look for the Trojans program and just shows the dysfunction that has been going on within the USC defense over the last few weeks. Grinch had guys in positions they didn't belong, and it really hurt the team's CFP hopes this season.

He likely should have been fired weeks ago while the Trojans still had hopes of winning anything this year, but you live and learn. The Trojans have a couple of games left to try and salvage the season, starting with a tough one this weekend against the Oregon Ducks.

Hopefully, with Grinch gone, the defense can perform at a higher level this week. They will need to be prepared, as they get ready to take on the powerful Ducks on the road.
