Latest NFL Training Camp News from Caleb Williams and Sam Darnold

There are two former USC Trojans quarterbacks heading into the 2026 NFL season as projected starting quarterbacks: Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

What are the latest stories out of training camp for these two?

Caleb Williams Looking "Sharp"

Caleb Williams is coming off a breakout season in 2025 with the Bears. Williams threw for 3,942 yards with 27 touchdowns in the regular season. The Bears went 11-6, winning the NFC North Division for the first time since 2018. They also won a playoff game over the rival Green Bay Packers before getting eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.

Williams was able to bounce back in 2025 from an up and down rookie season in 2024.

What does 2026 have in store for the former Trojan?

The Score’s Chris Emma said Williams was “sharp” and the offense was “crisp” at the Bears’ training camp practice on Tuesday.

This will be the third year in the NFL for Williams and the second year under Bears coach Ben Johnson. Johnson was hired prior to the 2025 season and showed why he was such a heavily pursued coaching candidate in the offseason. When Johnson took the Bears job, he admitted that a big reason why he took it was because of Caleb Williams.

Prior to his NFL career, Williams played for USC from 2022-2023. In those two seasons, he threw for 8.170 yards and 72 touchdowns. His best season was in 2022, leading USC to 11 wins and winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy. Williams returned for USC in 2023 and ended up declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft following that regular season.

He was selected No. 1 overall by the Bears. Expectations are high in Chicago for Williams and Johnson to build off their successful 2025 season.

Sam Darnold Reveals Biggest Area of Improvement

Sam Darnold is going into his ninth season in the NFL and his second with the Seahawks. His first year in Seattle couldn’t have gone much better in 2025. Darnold threw for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns in the regular season en route to the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl.

Now Darnold and the Seahawks will have their eyes on a potential repeat. He joined ‘Inside Training Camp Live’ recently to talk about what he’s seen from the Seahawks offense so far in camp.

“It’s been great just to see the hard work that everybody has put in…It’s incredible to be able to work hard with the teammates we have here,” Darnold said.

Darold also was asked about what he is aiming to improve on this season. He said he needs to improve on “getting off the spot and throwing accurately.” Darold noted that there were instances last season where he felt he “got off the spot” and the ball was delivered inaccurately. That’s something he has worked on getting better at that this offseason.

Darnold played for USC from 2015-2017. In 27 games played, he threw for 7,229 yards and 57 touchdowns. Darnold was selected No. 3 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
