Some members of the 1969 USC football team are not thrilled that the athletic dept. is ignoring them but honoring the 1970 team at Friday's Salute to Troy.

The 1969 team expected to be honored last summer but then USC canceled the Salute to Troy presumably because of poor ticket sales.

USC is holding a virtual Salute to Troy on Friday and honoring the 1970 team, but not the 1969 team.

"It's a slap in the face," said a former player who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution from the athletic dept.

Since the event is virtual, I'm not sure what was gained by ignoring the 1969 team. Or the 1994 team, which was also supposed to be honored last year.

Especially when those former USC players made it clear how important it was for them to have a moment at the Salute to Troy. It's just strange.
