USC Football: Trojans Haters Overthinking Lone Loss, Opines Insider
As the USC Trojans enter into this week, they are feeling the pressure coming onto them. After dropping their game last weekend to Notre Dame, the Trojans know they can play better. And in all reality, they need to play better.
Per Scott Wolf of InsideUSC, head coach Lincoln Riley gave some thoughts on his team’s performance over the last few weeks and seemed to finally acknowledge that they haven’t played overly well.
“We know we haven’t been at our best for a few weeks. We haven’t been clicking quite on all cylinders. We’re very aware. When things aren’t going your way in this game, you can feel like it’s really, really far away, and in reality, it’s not.”

I guess it’s a starting point that Riley is taking some accountability for the poor performance of the team. Losing a game will do that to a coach apparently, despite the fact that the issues have been there for some time now.
“I guess he no longer feels the “untrained eyes” of the fans were wrong when they pointed out the defense’s shortcomings. Or when people criticized the offensive line. Or the will to run the ball. Or the lack of fundamentals like blocking.”

Riley is the same guy who went against the narrative that the defense wasn’t playing well, so who knows what he really thinks. Either way, the Trojans do need to put together a much better showing against Utah this week.
The season for them is starting to slip away from their loss to Notre Dame, and they can’t afford another loss. One more dropped game, and the Trojans can kiss their dreams of winning a National Championship this season goodbye. But for now, they are still alive in the hunt, even if barely.
