USC Football: Alum WR’s Light Up NFL Week 1

Making early statements!

As the NFL season officially kicked off this weekend, the Men of Troy saw a few of their own dominate in the wide receiver ranks.

Three names stood out over the past few days, one of which scored the opening TD of the entire NFL in his team's upset win on Thursday night.

The top target for a resurgent Detroit Lions team, St. Brown scampered in from nine yards out as part of a productive night to beat the Chiefs in their own building.

Defeating Kansas City by a score of 21-20 on their own turf, the former fourth-round pick continues to make doubters shake their heads as to how he slipped in the 2021 Draft.

Later in the weekend, a more recent alum and former top target of defending Heisman winner Caleb Williams, one Minnesota Viking, made his presence equally felt in just his first game in the NFL.

Finishing with 61 yards on four receptions that included this deep shot from nearly 40 yards out, Addison is already proving his first-round pedigree for Minnesota as a worthy selection.

The former Biletnikoff award winner couldn't secure the victory over the Buccaneers, though, similar to another older former USC wideout who tried his best with his own monster day in Indianapolis.

Unquestionably the top target on his team, Pittman Jr.'s work with Anthony Richardson nearly got the Colts the win without Jonathan Taylor's services at running back.

Racking up nearly 100 yards on the day that included this screenplay to the house, the old Trojan just couldn't help his team to victory like St. Brown did.

Though much of our focus remains on winning another national title in 2023, it's been a welcome sight to see some of our former Men of Troy dominating in the pros this early into the season.
