USC Football: 4-Star Senior Tight End Officially Signs With Trojans
Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans landed the plane on one of their top offensive prospects on signing day, no sure thing after a last minute bailout earlier this afternoon!
6'7" senior Hiram High School tight end Walter Matthews has officially inked an agreement to join the Cardinal and Gold in the fall of 2024, the Trojans' official X/Twitter account has announced.
He's ranked as the No. 162 overall prospect from among his graduating class, the 23rd-best in Georgia and the 12th-best tight end in the land, per 247Sports.
After visiting campus in June, Matthews eventually committed to the program on June 14th, ahead of a disastrous 7-5 Trojans season (USC will play in the Holiday Bowl next Wednesday, far from where the team wanted to be).
According to 247Sports, Matthews had also obtained offers from a wealth of other programs, including Texas A&M, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Texas, Miami, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Nebraska, LSU, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Florida State, Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Florida, Arkansas, and of course Auburn.
Matthews will compete for minutes alongside fellow four-star high school recruit Joey Olsen, current freshmen Carson Tabaracci and Kade Eldridge, and sophomore Lake McRee. Senior end Jude Wolfe, who has another year of eligibility, has entered the NCAA's transfer portal and will be heading for greener pastures.
