USC Football: Anonymous NFL GM Puts Caleb Williams On Insane Pedestal

Interesting take here...
In this story:

USC quarterback Caleb Williams has become one of the most talked about college football players in recent memory. He deserves all the praise being thrown his way because he is a great player.

After winning the Heisman Trophy a year ago, many didn't think that he could follow that year up with another strong one. But he has looked the part again through six games of the new season.

As long as Williams stays healthy, he is almost a lock to become the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. NFL teams love him; some have even said he is the best prospect to come out of college in a long time.

However, it seems that the hype around Williams may be going a little too far. One anonymous NFL General Manager recently said that Williams would be taken first if you were to put Williams in a draft class with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller.

Upon first glance, a double take occurred. While Williams has been awesome, it's hard to compare what he has done with what both Burrow and Lawrence did during their college careers.

Lawrence won a National Championship in 2018 as a true freshman. He then went back to the title game the following season, where he ended up losing to Burrow and LSU. But Lawrence was special in college, so if anything, Williams may be on par with him.

However, nothing Williams has done compares to what Burrow accomplished during the 2019 season. Burrow tore apart defenses in the SEC en route to the greatest individual season in college football history.

Burrow would easily be taken over Williams if the two were in the same draft class. What he accomplished is something that we haven't seen from a quarterback in a long time.

Williams plays against teams from the Pac-12, and while the conference has gotten better, it doesn't compare to the SEC or ACC.

Enough pressure is already being put on him, and this isn't helping anything. Williams has been great and deserves to be the first pick in the upcoming draft, but let's slow the brakes a little bit.
