USC Football: Caleb Williams Officially Declares for NFL Draft
At long last, Caleb Williams announces his plans to enter the NFL Draft. The entire world was waiting for the decision, and Williams decided to wait until the final day that upperclassmen would be eligible to do so.
Williams is seen by most to be the #1 option in this year's draft. The Chicago Bears currently own the #1 pick and there are growing reports they will plan to trade current QB Justin Fields to then select Williams.
Williams won the Heisman Trophy last year after he posted 4,537 passing yards, 42 TDs along with 383 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs.
Williams nearly won a second Heisman Trophy this year. He posted 3,633 passing yards, 30 TDs, 136 rushing yards, and 11 rushing TDs in his final year at USC.
Williams has been slated by many pundits as being a generational talent, and he has proven so during his time in college. The young QB has the natural ability to gun the ball down the field, while also possessing elite escapability in dangerous situations.
He will need to ensure he does not hold onto the ball for too long in the NFL, but Williams should instantly elevate any team that selects him. There are many QB-hungry teams in the NFL including the Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots.
All three teams pick in the top 5, though there could be some trickery in teams wanting to trade up for Williams' services.
Williams is likely to go #1 overall, and it will be interesting to see if the team that selects him is the Bears. Time will tell, and we will all find out what happens in the coming months.
The NFL Draft begins April 25, 2024.
