USC Football: Caleb Williams Talks Possible NFL, College Futures
For the last year, USC quarterback Caleb Williams has been the talk of the college football world. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has amazed on the field, and he is presumed to be the first pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Williams has the chance to turn a struggling NFL franchise around, and he has the skill set to do it. He is a special player, and teams are going to be trying to position themselves to land him.
There was some talk earlier in the year that he could forgo the NFL for another tear, but many didn't look too much into it. Williams recently addressed the possibility of him entering the NFL.
"Williams, for the record, told The Times it’s still “a game-time decision” whether he declares for the NFL."
Per Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times
If Williams does enter the NFL, he will be one of the more highly-anticipated players in a long time. Many believe that he will be the next NFL great, and scouts see him as a generational prospect.
He opened up about the struggles that both he and the team saw this season. It was one of the first times that things didn't end with a winning year for him.
“I’ve never been in this situation, where I’m 7-5 and there are no playoff hopes at the end of the season. I’m dealing with it emotionally, dealing with it spiritually and physically. It’s been one of the most important years I think I’ve had. It’s tricky."
Per Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times
This year was a good learning experience for Williams, as this is what he should expect in the NFL the first year or so. Most teams don't start winning for a few years, and it can be tough mentally on young quarterbacks. Williams has all the talent in the world, and his future will be closely watched.
