USC Football: D'Anton Lynn Appears High on Odds List to Become UCLA Head Coach
The USC Trojans did the unthinkable, which was poaching D'Anton Lynn away from the UCLA Bruins. Lynn surprisingly came over to become the new defensive coordinator of the team and was quickly joined by former Rams DL coach Eric Henderson.
The one-two punch of Henderson and Lynn is likely to completely turn around the paltry defensive power that the Trojans had in the 2023 season.
While the excitement is palpable, there could be a giant wrench in this plan. UCLA and Chip Kelly parted ways, and now there are growing odds that the Bruins could call Lynn to return as head coach.
According to betting odds, Lynn is currently in second place with a +350 (22%) chance of being the next head coach of the Bruins.
He is only surpassed by Jamey Chadwell. Chadwell is the head coach of Liberty, but he could be coaxed over by the Bruins.
Though it may sound a bit farfetched for Lynn to drop everything and become head coach of the Bruins, he would be getting a chance to lead the team versus being a coordinator.
Most coaches have to work their way up to the proverbial totem pole to get a crack at coaching at the NFL level, and Lynn would be on his way if he could prove he can handle head coaching duties with UCLA.
Losing Lynn at this juncture would be devastating for USC, though we imagine Henderson would immediately step into that role if Lynn were to be called upon.
These are simply betting odds, so there is no truth to this just yet. Still, it could be a possibility that Lynn would take a much better promotion.
