Your 7-3 USC Trojans just lost a critical defender ahead of a must-win bout tonight with the 8-1 Oregon Ducks.

Starting inside linebacker Eric Gentry will be a late scratch, per Chris Treviño of 247Sports. This season, the 6'6", 215-pound junior has racked up 34 tackles (17 solo), one sack, one forced fumble and one interception. He transferred to the Trojans after spending his freshman season with the Arizona State University Sun Devils.

Per ESPN, the Ducks are currently -16 favorites to beat Caleb Williams and co. tonight, which would effectively end their chances at a bowl appearance and the Pac-12 Championship game.

The matchup tips off at 7:30 p.m. PT, and will air on our local Fox affiliate, KTTV.

Although USC's defense was no great shakes under former defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, it still hurts to lose one of their top contributors, especially against the lethal firepower of Ducks quarterback Bo Nix, who has lapped Williams as a legitimate Heisman Trophy award contender this season.

Gentry had a big moment against the Washington Huskies last week while guarding another Heisman contender, Michael Penix, causing an interception.
