USC Football Injury Report: Right Tackle Mason Murphy Hurt In 1st Half

Not ideal for an already-underwhelming offensive line.

While attempting to hold off projected No. 11 overall 2024 draft prospect Laiatu Latu, a standout defensive lineman for the UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans right tackle Mason Murphy appeared to suffer an injury and had to depart the field, seconds ahead of the end of the opening half.

Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times reports that true freshman lineman Alani Noa has replaced Murphy at right guard to close out the matchup's second quarter.

The Trojans' offensive line has already looked a bit fraught today, forcing a lot of play under pressure out of Heisman Trophy-winning USC quarterback Caleb Williams, a projected top-three pick in the 2024 NFL draft himself.

The Trojans currently trail the Bruins, 14-10, at the break.

Murphy, a 6'5", 310-pound redshirt sophomore out of Riverside, has carved out a role for himself again this season, following an active 2022 campaign. He didn't see the field during his true freshman season in 2021. Noah, a 6'5", 325-pound stud out of Grant Union High School in Sacramento, is no doubt grateful for the opportunity today to help block for Williams, though it's happening under unfortunate circumstances.
