USC football: Jack Sullivan's 'maturity and professionalism' standing out to Trojans coaches

Sullivan made 38 tackles and had 5.5 sacks last season at Purdue

Purdue defensive lineman transfer Jack Sullivan has the potential to become a USC fan favorite in his last year of college football.

Multiple times during spring camp, Sullivan was the first scholarship player to walk out onto the practice field from the locker room.

And the coaching staff has taken notice.

Sullivan's "maturity and professionalism" have stood out this spring, according to USC defensive line coach Shaun Nua.

"That sums him up," Nua said. "He knows the expectations exactly and he's ready to embrace it."

The strong work ethic has followed Sullivan from Purdue where over the past four seasons he didn't miss a single game. From 2019 to 2022, Sullivan played in all 45 of the Boilermakers' clashes.

The Illinois native credited his spotless injury history with staying consistent in his approach and recovery as well as always stretching and maintaining good nutritional habits.

"I've always been told the best ability is availability," he said

Sullivan, who made 38 tackles and had 5.5 sacks last season, enjoyed his first spring camp in a USC uniform.

"I've grown a lot," he said last month. "Starting out it was strange to learn a new system and do all of that stuff. So I feel a lot more confident. I've been feeling a lot faster now towards the end of spring ball. It's really good to get that confidence going into the summer conditioning wise and then revving it up into fall camp."

Sullivan will line up on the interior and the edge for USC this fall.

"I'm willing and able to play whatever they need me for," he said.
