USC Football: Lincoln Riley Now Considered Likeliest To Be Fired Next
With UCLA Bruins head coach Chip Kelly somehow evading a firing this year, perhaps in no small part because the Blue and Gold roundly shellacked your USC Trojans 38-20 two weeks ago, another Pac-12 program in the Golden State has now caught the attention of Vegas sports books.
Scott Wolf of InsideUSC reports that Bet Online now predicts second-year USC head coach Lincoln Riley as the likeliest coach to be shown the door now, with 3:1 odds.
Is this just sheer reading-the-room conjecture, or do they actually know something?
This year's Trojans club under Riley boasted reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, stumbled to a 7-5 record amidst College Football Playoff expectations. The 40-year-old is in the second year of a massive $110 million deal he inked to jump to USC from Oklahoma in 2021.
His defense under coordinator Alex Grinch (fired midseason) has proven to be the biggest issue for Riley this year.
USC continues to await its bowl fate as of this writing, but it's not even clear if Williams will suit up for what promises to be a fairly mid-tier contest, let alone if the junior star will return for a fairly pointless senior season, given that his NFL future looks so bright already.
