USC Football: Lincoln Riley Reveals the Truth About Where Caleb Williams Wants to Play

In this story:

Since before USC quarterback Caleb Williams declared for the NFL Draft, there's been a lot of talk about who he does and doesn't want to play for. This has included rumors that he doesn't want to play for the Chicago Bears, and Williams himself saying last April he'd like to play with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the Miami Dolphins.

Williams' head coach at USC, Lincoln Riley, set the record straight on all the narratives about where Williams wants to go.

"Location wise, I don't think he cares one bit where's he at," Riley said on the Pat McAfee Show. He wants to win ... it's more about getting in the right situation where he knows he can continue to develop and do the things that he needs to do to help a franchise be successful. And that's it."

Williams will likely be a top-three pick, if not the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The top three teams in the draft -- Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots -- are all in consideration to take Williams. However, the Bears could opt to stick with Justin Fields, or any of these teams could pick North Carolina's Drake Maye or LSU's Jayden Daniels over Williams.

Another possibility is that a different quarterback-needy team could trade up to draft Williams, who is of course considered one of the top quarterback prospects this season.

From what Riley said, it seems that Williams is ready to go to the team that selects him and is not planning to pull a John Elway or Eli Manning.
