USC's new linebackers coach and assistant head coach on defense, Matt Entz, joined the team this offseason after stepping down from a highly successful job. He was a two-time FCS National Champion as the head coach at North Dakota State but joined the Trojans to work under Lincoln Riley.

It was a curious move for such a successful head coach, but Entz had his own personal reasons. He believed that working for USC gave him better opportunities down the line, and the Trojans now get a very talented coach on their defensive unit.

Entz spoke about why he left North Dakota State, saying that USC is a powerful place.

USC will gladly take Entz, and their defense can use all the help that they can get. After a poor 2023 season, the Trojans completely revamped their defensive coaching staff in the hopes of a more successful 2024.

They believe that they have the correct people put in place, with Entz being a key member of the staff. He will work under defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, who comes over from the UCLA Bruins.

Being a member of the Trojans is special, and Entz understands this more than many. It may be an adjustment for the new linebackers coach, but he is hopeful that this will lead to more success on the field for his career.
