USC Football: Mel Kiper Weighs In On How Bears Should Handle Draft, Caleb Williams
USC Trojans star quarterback Caleb Williams is likely heading to the NFL next season, even though the junior signal caller hasn't officially declared yet. Williams will be one of the top picks in the draft and is one of the more coveted prospects in recent years.
He was long thought to be the first player off the board, but that remains to be seen now. After a somewhat down season for both him and the Trojans, Williams may not be taken first overall anymore.
At the top of the draft board, there are a few intriguing teams that need the quarterback position. The Chicago Bears hold the first pick, but they have Justin Fields playing the position.
However, there are those who believe that they should select Williams anyway. The Bears could then trade Fields for more draft capital down the line.
ESPN NFL draft insider Mel Kiper is one of those people. He spoke on the matter during an episode of the show Get Up! on ESPN.
It's hard to argue against taking Williams here. Fields has been good in the league, but he hasn't elevated the Bears during his time there.
However, Fields is a proven player in the league while Williams is still a prospect of what could happen. Williams has the chance to be a complete game-changer for whatever team that drafts him, but there is also the possibility of him being a bust.
It's not a likely outcome for WIlliams, but we've seen other players in the past not live up to the hype. If the Bears were to select Williams, they would be doing something similar to what the Arizona Cardinals did a few years ago.
Chicago has some big decisions to make this offseason, with Williams at the center of it all.
