College recruiting looks a little different now than it did just a few short seasons ago. With the transfer portal and NIL deals available, it makes things that much more interesting. Each year now, we see contenders boost up their rosters with transfer players, and it seems rare that the athletes actually stay at the school for their entire eligibility.

This is especially true with college football since it’s required for players to play at least three seasons before they can enter the NFL.

One team that has made great work of the transfer portal is the USC Trojans. Getting the headlines of Caleb Williams and Jordan Addison last season, USC found its way back toward the top of the sport and almost reached the College Football Playoff.

With 2023, USC once again did their job and was a top landing spot for transfer players in the recruiting process. Having a respected head coach in Lincoln Riley doesn’t hurt either, but the days of USC being a powerhouse in college football appear to be here once again.

247 Sports ranked the transfer portal acquisitions for the 2023 season, and USC landed at the number three spot.

“USC signed the top-ranked transfer class in the 2022 cycle ahead of Lincoln Riley's first season and it paid off in a big way after the Trojans flipped the roster en route to a berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game. With another star-studded group on the way in, now USC reloads its roster with several top-end players, including nine four-stars, per 247Sports' transfer ratings”

The team brought in some great talent to add to their roster. Some of the biggest names were defensive lineman Bear Alexander from Georgia, running back Marshawn Lloyd from South Carolina, and wide receiver Dorian Singer from Arizona. All three should provide the Trojans will some extra boost this season and help them get back to a Pac-12 title game.

This season has the look of a strong one for USC, and once again, it's being led by their good recruiting tactics.
