Whenever any Los Angeles-based sports team thrives, it brings on a ton of hatred from the outside. Whether it's the Lakers, Dodgers, or even one of the college teams, people just love to hate LA. USC is no different; they have seen their fair share of hatred for their success.

The Trojans football program has been one of the most historic in the sport of college football, and with that success is going to bring on outside noise. It's like clockwork whenever the Trojans field a good team because it becomes cool to root against them.

But that desire to see the Trojans fail only drives the athletes even more. They know what they are signing up for when joining USC, and it's just motivation to prove everyone wrong. Ducks Wire editor Zachary Neel gave his thoughts on the situation, adding fuel to the fire.

“Jealousy is the cousin of hate, and in this case, those two feelings are very closely related. The USC Trojans have been among the preeminent teams and brands in the world of college football since its inception. With 11 national championships and eight Heisman Trophy winners in school history, it’s easy to see why people dislike the Trojans. Nobody likes to root for the best of the best, and for decades, that’s who USC has been."

When USC is on top of the college football world, everyone wants to tear them down. For this current version of the Trojans they are expected to be major players for the College Football Playoff this season, so the hare has already begun. Nobody outside of Los Angeles wants to see the men of Troy find success, and that's just how it always has been.

Neel added that with the LA style of flair and flashy, it can bring out strong negative emotions from people not associated.

“The Trojans will let you know about it, as well. With the flashy Hollywood backdrop and the braggadocious Los Angeles style, I think USC and its fans are happy to draw ire from the rest of the nation. They know that most of the college football world is against them, and often is rooting for their downfall. They wouldn’t have it any other way.”

With head coach Lincoln Riley in the mix now, expect the Trojans to stay one of the country's better teams for the foreseeable future. The hate will brew, but the Trojans and their fans wouldn't want it any other way.
