USC Football: Oregon Head Coach Applauds "Heisman-Worthy" Play Of Bo Nix Vs Trojans
As USC ceded nearly 600 yards to the Oregon Ducks, the damage was done by multiple skill-position players.
At the head of the pack, however, was quarterback Bo Nix, who may have cemented his Heisman Trophy front-runner case in a masterclass against the Trojans.
Nix went 23-of-31 on his passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns, to go along with zero turnovers. He delivered clutch plays when needed, connected on long passes, and made smart decisions at every corner. Nix played close to "perfect" in this game, out-dueling Caleb Williams and putting Oregon in an excellent spot to compete for the Pac-12 Championship game.
Here's what Ducks coach Dan Lanning had to say about his performance, per Rob Moseley of GoDucks.com:
Lanning gives credit where it is due to Caleb Williams, dubbing the reigning Heisman winner an "elite quarterback." Undoubtedly, however, his comments about Nix are absolutely true, as his near-flawless performance, along with a great defensive job by the Ducks, have put them in prime position for a double-digit win season.
With regards to the Heisman race, Nix is essentially head-to-head at this point with fellow Pac-12 QB Michael Penix, but after Penix had one less touchdown, 80 fewer yards, and completed just 57% of his passes, Nix may have overtaken him.
That said, Penix remains undefeated (10-0), and in the process, defeated Nix in a head-to-head. Expect the Heisman race to continue to be a close one between these two Pac-12 quarterbacks – neither of whom anybody expected to be above Caleb Williams on the ladder at this stage of the season in hindsight.
