USC Football: Possible All-SEC Freshman OL Transfer Considered Top Fit For Trojans
Recent rumblings have projected that offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor, a Freshman All-American and 1st Team Freshman All-SEC honoree, may be entering the NCAA's transfer portal and departing the Alabama Crimson Tide, following the retirement of six-time college champ Nick Saban, according to Matt Zemek of Trojans Wire. Because of Saban's late departure, incumbent players on his now-ex-club are allotted a provisional 30-day transfer portal window.
If Proctor does indeed take the leap into the portal, Zemek believes he'd be a good fit on USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley's O line.
"Proctor is 6-7 and 360 pounds," Zemek writes. "He’s big and nasty, exactly what USC needs heading into the Big Ten. Can the Trojans make a strong run at him? We will see."
USC will be undergoing some critical changes this offseason. Amidst a wave of departures for players with remaining collegiate eligibility, the Trojans' biggest loss is clearly Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams, the project No. 1 pick in this year's NFL draft. Whoever winds up starting under center in Williams' stead will need plenty of protection, so a ferocious new addition a la Proctor could be imperative.
UPDATE:
Following the publication of this article, it was revealed that Proctor is indeed transferring to a 2024 Big Ten program...
...Unfortunately, that program is the Iowa Hawkeyes, per Hayes Fawcett of On3. Fawcett notes that Proctor, a Des Moines native was the top-ranked offensive tackle in the transfer portal this offseason. He was a five-star recruit coming out of Southeast Polk High School in Iowa.
