The USC Trojans 2023 season is one that most would like to forget. They entered the year with College Football Playoff expectations but ended the season with a disappointing 7-5 record.

There were multiple reasons why the Trojans failed to live up to expectations, with one of them being their problems along the offensive line. It caused all sorts of problems for the explosive offensive attack, and it slowed down star quarterback Caleb Williams,

Wiliams entered the season as the top player in college football, but he showed that he couldn't do it alone. He gave it his all throughout the year, but the problems around him were too large to overcome.

The Trojans star did have a solid season, but it wasn't where many believed he would be. He will now be entering the NFL, where he is expected to be a top draft pick, but he did earn a nice honor for his production from this past season.

Williams came in at No. 23 on Pro Football Focus's list of the top 101 players from the 2023 season. After winning the Heisman Trophy a year ago, this seems like a far drop for the star signal-caller.

"23. QB CALEB WILLIAMS, USC TROJANS

Williams didn’t match his 2022 production, but he still threw 30 touchdowns and only five interceptions in 2023. He led the nation with a 94.3 clean-pocket grade but struggled with ball security when under pressure. Regardless, Williams was still one of college football’s most explosive playmakers."

Per Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus

In 12 games with the Trojans this year, Williams threw for 3,633 yards with 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. It was a productive year for him, but one that was underwhelming compared to his incredible 2022 season.

We can acknowledge that Williams struggled at different times this past season while still appreciating his strong play as well. He was the reason why USC was even in half of their games this year, and fans are thankful he was a part of the team for multiple seasons.
