The new college football season is almost upon us, as week zero begins in just a few days. The USC Trojans will be a part of the opening weekend as they get set to take on the San Jose State Spartans at home.

As we get closer to kick-off, the San Jose State head coach gave the Trojans, namely, reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, some high praise.

“I don’t think there’s anything about the team we’re playing that’s like the team we played two years ago,” Brennan said. “I think the only consistent thing is that it’ll be played in the LA Coliseum, and hopefully there’ll be some familiarity with that, but in terms of the personnel, their scheme, how they’re coached, how they’re playing, it’s a totally different football team.”

USC will be a challenge for most schools that face off against them this season due to their high-powered offense. It’s how head coach Lincoln Riley has built this team, and the offensive schemes they have in place want them to play fast.

The goal is to dominate the opponents on the field, with Williams leading the charge. He was the best player in the sport last season, and there is no reason to believe he can’t duplicate that success again this year.

“We’re playing against the best player in America,” Brennan said. “He brings a whole different set of challenges. This quarterback is elusive. He is very strong. It’s hard to get him down, and his ability to make every throw whether it’s in the pocket or on the move makes him incredibly hard to defend. So that’s going to be a big challenge for our team.”

This will be the first chance for the Trojans to make a statement. They are widely expected to be one of the better programs this season, so they can’t take the Spartans for granted.

USC needs to come out strong and play with the same mentality they would in a big Pac-12 rivalry game.

Every game in college football matters because the College Football Playoff Committee weighs everything together when making their weekly rankings. The time is now for the Trojans; let’s see what they are made of.
