USC Football: Trojans QB Caleb Williams Doesn’t Go First In Latest Expert NFL Mock Draft

Well, this is interesting...
In this story:

Over the last year plus, USC quarterback Caleb Williams has been the clear-cut top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Every mock draft, every media member had him going number one, but it seems that something may have changed.

In a recent mock draft done by Bleacher Report, Williams is still the first quarterback taken off the board, but they have him going second to the Chicago Bears.

"The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is also an athletic and creative player, which are two traits becoming increasingly en vogue at the highest level. Sometimes, Williams' creativity can be to his own detriment, but the overall good is worth some of the bad."

The team has Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrision Jr. being taken by the Arizona Cardinals. Maybe they believe that Arizona holds onto quarterback Kyler Murray, and stacks up the talent around him.

"A wide receiver over a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick probably comes as a surprise. But it shouldn't, particularly with the Arizona Cardinals currently owning the spot."

Per Bleacher Report NFL Scouting Department

Williams has seen some uncharacteristically poor games this season, and it has started to make people question whether or not he should be the clear number-one choice. He still has the most talent among all quarterbacks, but much like in 2020 with Tua Tagovailoa, he could fall a few spots.

The NFL is completely a “what have you done for me lately” type of league, and that could see Williams drop. He is still going second overall in this mock draft, which is news in itself.

“Make no mistake, USC's Caleb Williams has struggled a little more than expected this season, but his natural passing traits and instincts are still off the charts.”

Per Bleacher Report NFL Scouting Department

This is certainly something to keep an eye on as the season goes on, especially with the Trojans facing some tough competition down the stretch of the season. Williams still likely goes first overall, but this could make some things interesting.
