USC Transfer Running Back Continues to Amaze Teammates

Hopefully, he can keep up this level of production all season!

Over the last few years, the transfer portal has become an integral part of college football. Without it, teams have struggled to keep up, so the most successful programs tend to have a ton of transfers each year.

Especially in this new era of college athletics where NIL deals are consistently being thrown around, transfer rates have spiked. It has been criticized by some for taking the integrity of signing with a program away, but it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

For the USC Trojans, they themselves saw multiple transfer players enter their ranks this offseason. One of those was running back MarShawn Lloyd from the University of South Carolina.

He had a good career with the Gamecocks but playing for USC does have special perks to it. Last season for South Carolina, Lloyd put up 572 yards and nine touchdowns.

So far through just two games with the Trojans, it seems that Lloyd has already made a strong impression on his teammates.

“MarShawn’s ridiculous,” defensive end Solomon Byrd said when asked what Lloyd brings to this USC team. “You can see what MarShawn brings to this team. “MarShawn’s absolutely ridiculous. Super elusive.”

He has put up 118 yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts this season. Lloyd is a big part of the Trojans offense and at least so far, he has surpassed what they hoped for him.

“Very explosive,” wide receiver Mario Williams said of Lloyd. “He’s got homerun speed. If you let him get to the second level, it’s over.”

As the year progresses, Lloyd will be relied upon more heavily. He shares the backfield with others, but he has a chance to make a name for himself. Plus, playing in an offense that is run by genius head coach Lincoln Riley doesn’t hurt things at all.
