USC Trojans Predicted To Land Five-Star Jahkeem Stewart's Commitment Over LSU?
Early national signing day is Wednesday, Dec. 4, and the USC Trojans are still pushing to bring in big recruits. One player the Trojans are heavily pursuing is five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart.
Stewart is a five-star recruit from the class of 2025. Per On3, Stewart is ranked as the No. 16 player in the nation, the No. 3 defensive lineman in the recruiting class, and the No. 1 player in Louisiana. USC remains a top candidate for Stewert, competing with the LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. With a couple of schools still in the running, it is trending towards USC and LSU being the top two for Stewart.
Despite being a high prospect, Stewart has yet to commit to a school. LSU has a strong chance of recruiting Stewert, being in his home state. The Trojans still have strong odds as On3’s Steve Wiltfong predicted predicts USC will land the five-star recruit.
“There is more optimism around the Tigers program but the intel still continues to favor the Trojans heading into the final couple days,” Wiltfong wrote. “LSU is going to battle to till the end and there are folks in Baton Rouge that believe they can keep the state’s top prospect home.”
The Trojans have been thin on the defensive line, and Stewert is a difference-maker. He believes he can run through anyone on the field with his athleticism. USC coach Eric Henderson sees this high potential in Stewart and has been pushing to recruit him for years. Stewart’s coach, Clyde Alexander, has gone with Stewart to all his visits. Alexander spoke to On3 about Henderson’s love for Stewart.
“I used to send him video of Jahkeem when he was coaching for the L.A. Rams,” Alexander told On3. “He said if he does take the job at USC, he told me he needed me to bring him the kid. USC was the first place we visited after he took the USC job in January.”
With the Trojans ending the regular season 6-6, recruits have been flipping their decisions away from USC. While it is common for recruits to flip their decisions based on records, Alexander explained to On3 that the Trojans' record is not a factor for Stewart.
“At USC they have an elite staff, great schemes on defense and offense and an administration all in with adding elite coaches and athletes to the football program,” Alexander said. “We’re not looking at USC’s record or the same stuff fans are, we’re looking at what those coaches are doing with their current players.”
Something USC offers Stewart is opportunities outside of football. NIL will also be a factor in his decision. The details are unknown, but USC offered Stewart a substantial NIL package, according to On3.
The USC class of 2025 ranks No. 17 nationally and No. 5 in the Big Ten, per On3's industry rankings. The rank may have dropped with five-star recruit Jerome Myles de-committing from USC on Dec. 1, but there is hope for the Trojans recruiting class. With early national signing day on Dec. 4, Stewart’s decision will be an important one to watch for.
