USC's High-Scoring Offense Falls Just Short of Top Ranking

The USC offense will be a force to be reckoned with once again

When it comes to the USC Trojans, one area that stands out with unwavering confidence is their offense. With Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and the offensive brilliance of Lincoln Riley leading the charge, any worries about this side of the game can be safely set aside. The Trojans are poised to bring an offensive arsenal that's nothing short of formidable.

The Trojans have all they need to repeat their success on offense. They have possibly the deepest wide receiver rooms in the league, a standout true freshman tight end, a rejuvenated running back stable, and a potent offensive line that will indeed repeat their success. The Trojans' offensive machinery is designed to hum like a well-oiled engine.

However, amidst the excitement, there's an element of comparison. 247Sports analyst Cody Nagel's rankings placed USC at an impressive number two in the top 10 offensive teams going into 2023. The sole team ranked higher is the future Big 10 foes, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Is there more or less pressure on USC quarterback Caleb Williams after winning the Heisman Trophy last season? The Trojans came up one game short of the College Football Playoff and likely have one last chance to represent the Pac-12 before Williams moves on to the NFL and USC moves to the Big Ten after the 2023 season. With as much firepower as the Trojans possess, offensive scoring will not be an issue. Arizona transfer Dorian Singer and five-star freshman Zachariah Branch project to be a lethal pass-catching duo while South Carolina transfer running back Marshawn Lloyd eases the workload for Williams in the pocket. Since 2017, no offense under head coach Lincoln Riley has ranked lower than No. 8 nationally in scoring.

It won't be easy for the Trojans to repeat their 2022 success, but there's no excuse for them to not so do. Even though their schedule will be more challenging this season, they should still be able to do their thing.

USC ranked among the top 10 in many offensive categories in 2022 and will look to be in the top 5 in many of the same categories in 2023.

As the season unfolds, all signs point to an electrifying offensive showcase, with the Trojans firmly in the driver's seat. Watch your back, Buckeyes!
