Walker Lyons commits to USC Trojans; 4-star tight end will likely take mission
Walker Lyons, a four-star tight end from Folsom High School (Sacramento), announced his commitment to USC on National Signing Day. Lyons decommitted from Stanford in November.
At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds Lyons is a polished receiver and could be an immediate addition to Lincoln Riley's passing game. He is LDS, however, and is expected to take a one-year mission.
Lyons broke his leg in Folsom's first game of his senior season, but as a junior, the strong, athletic pass catcher hauled in 42 receptions for 646 yards and seven touchdowns. Lyons has a very high ceiling as a prospect. He started playing football as a high school freshman.
Here's what 247Sports had to say about Lyons in its scouting report:
"Measuring at 6-foot-3, 232-pounds with a 77-inch wingspan and 33 inch arms. These numbers speak for themselves to his size and overall potential from a growth standpoint. He is a very well built player with a thick sturdy frame. He moves pretty well and does a decent job being able to change direction. There is some stiffness in his hips that he needs to continue to work on with improved flexibility. He is from a physical development standpoint ready to contribute once he arrives on a college campus.
He lines up both attached to the core as an inline tightened as well as in the slot position. He does a nice job of getting off the ball and into his route pattern from either alignment. With good body quickness and strength he has no issue getting off of press coverage."
