USC Football: Why Rest Of Season Could Spell Trouble For Trojans' Perfect Record

Things are about to get tough for USC.

Once again, your USC Trojans narrowly escaped a victory this weekend, after a letdown of a performance from their defense. The Trojans outlasted the Arizona Wildcats in an eventual 43-41 triple-overtime win, after entering the game as heavy favorites.

This is now the third straight week where the Trojans found themselves in a game that was much closer than it should have been, and it’s looking like a real problem. The Trojans remained undefeated with the win, but their perfect season came close to ending.

In order for this team to reach their preseason goal of reaching the College Football Playoff, the Trojans can’t afford any slip-ups. And with their schedule about to take a very tough turn, that could be a real issue for USC.

They get Notre Dame this weekend on the road, then face off against a tough Utah squad. Then to close out their season, they have matchups against Washington, Oregon and an improved UCLA team that will fight them to the end.

It isn't just their defense either, as their offensive line seems to be a problem too. They allowed four sacks against Arizona, and unless quarterback Caleb Williams has time to make magic happen, USC will be in real trouble.

The Trojans have to figure something out before it is too late on their season. Against better competition, they likely won’t win a game like they had on Saturday. To their credit, they came back from down 17-0, but the issue is that they were in that position in the first place.

The Trojans look vulnerable, and teams are sensing it on the field. They are having battles with teams that they have no business being in close games with, and it is only hurting their College Football Playoff chances.
