USC Football: Writer Chides Defensive Effort, Even Though Trojans Beat ASU
While the USC Trojans did win their game this past weekend against Arizona State by two touchdowns, it was the kind of win that teams leave feeling weird about. On one hand, the game was won, but it was a shaky win at best.
The Trojans didn’t look their best all game long, and the defense seemed to resort back to their old ways. They gave up 28 points to a team that has been struggling to score the ball all year, and at times, it looked like they couldn’t stop them.
It almost felt like the Trojans came into the game with the mindset that they would beat Arizona State, and when the Sun Devils pushed back, it was a surprise to them. The Trojans were lucky that they were playing against the Sun Devils and not stronger competition.
If they want to reach their ultimate goal of winning a national championship, they will need to be better. Scott Wolf of InsideUSC gave thoughts on the victory but was frustrated with the defensive effort from USC.
“I shudder to think what would have happened if USC played in Eugene,
Ore., instead of Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday night. What has Alex Grinch done to make USC better? He just blitzes.
”
Per Scott Wolf of InsideUSC
The defensive effort was questionable at best from the Trojans last weekend. As the schedule gets tougher, they will need to make sure they shore up things, and come in better prepared.
They can't take their foot off the gas at all, because if they do, someone will take them down. USC is the hunted team this season, and it's time that they act like it. Another poor performance like this, and the Trojans can all but kiss their chance at a title goodbye.
