In the 2023 recruiting cycle, the USC Trojans and Oregon Ducks finished next to one another in the national rankings at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.

That finish highlights a budding Lincoln Riley-Dan Lanning recruiting clash that has seen the Trojans primarily win with offensive recruits and the Ducks climb into the top-10 with a strong defensive showing.

It's a battle that took centerstage with Forney (Texas) four-star defensive back Aaron Flowers, the nation's No. 9 safety and No. 109 overall prospect.

On Friday, a winner was determined, as Flowers committed to Oregon over USC and fellow finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Louisville, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Washington.

The dynamic 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back took spring visits to Arkansas, Alabama, Oregon and USC, as well as a January trip to Oklahoma.

In truth, however, Flowers decision seemed to come down to a battle between Oklahoma, Oregon and USC.

But in the end, he chose the Ducks, continuing a trend of successful recruiting in Texas.
