USC football: 4-star cornerback says 'I like the move to the Big Ten'

Four-star Serra (Gardena, Calif.) cornerback Dakoda Fields is ranked as the No. 10 cornerback and No. 78 overall prospect nationally

Four-star Serra (Gardena, Calif.) cornerback Dakoda Fields included USC in his list of top seven schools over the weekend. The 2024 prospect is ranked as the No. 10 cornerback and No. 78 overall prospect by the 247Sports.com composite.

In addition to USC, Fields other finalists include Cal, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

In an interview with recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Fields spoke about what makes USC an exciting option for him:

“I’ve been to USC a lot but and always have a great time there. Me and my family have had some great talks with coach Riley and we’re all very comfortable with coach Grinch as well. They have outlined the expectations at USC and where they see the program going. Coach Riley is confident he can bring USC back and make it a national power and when you see what he did in year one, it was very impressive. Donte Williams is my guy, one of the coaches I’m closest with and he’s very easy for me to talk with. He's someone I know who cares about me as a person and a player and will always be close no matter where I go. I like the move to the Big 10 too and I know they're excited about it as well.

Last recruiting cycle, USC missed out on signing four-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant, Fields' high school teammate. Pleasant's decision came down to Oregon and USC and it looks like the Ducks are big time players in Fields' recruitment too.

Will USC be able to buck the trend from last cycle where the top three defensive players in California all chose Oregon? That's definitely something to watch.

As of May 16, 247Sports.com ranks Fields as the No. 7 defensive recruit in California.
