USC football: 5-star receiver 'loved Lincoln Riley's plan for the program' on official visit
USC and Lincoln Riley jumped into the recruitment of 2024 five-star Midlothian (Texas) wide receiver Bryant Wesco later than a few other high profile schools.
The Trojans did manage to lock down Wesco and his family for their first official visit last weekend though and according to 247Sports.com's Steve Wiltfong, "USC put their best foot forward."
"USC was a school that you weren't hearing a lot about early on for Bryant Wesco," Wiltfong said on his YouTube show earlier this week. "You were hearing a lot about Oklahoma, Clemson and TCU. But USC is a place the family is excited about. USC kicked off the official visits for them. They went out there, loved Lincoln Riley's plan for the program, loved Dennis Simmons and his track record of player development. That's one of the biggest components in his process is who has the track record? Who can prove that they are the best man to develop him? He's got high goals in football but certainly in the business world as well. ... USC impressed academically, culturally and Coach Riley's vision for continued excellence were his father's words. That impressed them. USC put their best foot forward."
Wesco is rated as the No. 9 recruit nationally, per 247Sports.com. He's ranked as the No. 3 receiver.
Here's some of 247Sports.com's scouting report on Wesco.
Well-rounded WR1 type who can work the middle of the field, produce run-after-catch chunk plays, and stretch the field vertically. Taller, lankier build space to add some mass if desired. Comes from an athletic family with a father in Louisiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame (triple jumper) and sister who plays soccer at Oklahoma. Capable of creating late separation at the top of routes. Able to reach for another gear in those situations. Seems to understand angles and spacing when setting up defenders. Creative run-after-catch threat with challenging combination of suddenness and fluidity. Shows fairly easy top-end speed that is somewhat deceptively fast when compared to opposing defenders. Excellent ball-tracking concentration. Regularly makes "combat" catches as a contested ball-winner. Knows how and when to high-point and provides consistent red-zone threat because of it. Strong multi-sport profile with 48-foot triple jump prowess, as well as impressive data in high jump and long jump events.
