USC Football: Scouting 2024 Trojan Commit Cornerback Isaiah Rubin
Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos, CA) 2024 cornerback Isaiah Rubin committed to the Trojans back in October as the third cornerback commitment in USC's 2024 recruiting class. He elected to become a Trojan after considering offers from Colorado, Utah, and Oregon.
247 Sports ranks him as a four-star prospect, the 28th-best cornerback in the class of 2024 and the 26th-best player coming out of California in this cycle.
AllTrojans.com took a look at his Hudl film to see what the Trojans are getting in the 6'1", ~170-pound Rubin. Rubin only has his sophomore tape that's publicly available on his Hudl account, but he also posted a one-game highlight tape from this season.
Rubin can likely carry (and will probably need) an additional 10-15 pounds of muscle well. This would be to match up against some of the bigger receivers he'll face at the next level. In his sophomore tape, he showed off his overall athleticism well as both a cover corner but also as a return man.
He's got an elite change of direction and plays with a ton of confidence. Above average tackler for a sophomore cornerback.
Refined footwork also allows him to play more aggressively than most corners his age. In his single-game film from his senior season, Rubin looked like the complete package. He further developed his tackling, and the alignment he played in looked like his coaches had a ton of trust in his ability to neutralize the opponent's best-receiving threat.
He also has a great feel for down/distance and formation recognition. He knows where his threats are and knows where his help is, which allows him to diagnose plays quickly.
After a year of development, look for Rubin to step into the mix at cornerback in the second year at USC. The Trojans have done a great job of recruiting talented corners in this 2024 cycle, adding Marcelles Williams and Braylon Conley onto their rosters as well.
