USC Football: Trojans Flip a Former Minnesota Commit
Merry flipmas!
After a recent visit to USC, Prior Lake (Prior Lake, MN) defensive lineman Jide Abasirihad had a change of heart. Today on Twitter, Abasirihad announced he is committing to USC. Let's take a look at the series of events that led to Abasirihad's commitment.
Abasirihad received the Minnesota offer in January 2023 and committed to Minnesota after the Gopher's "Junior Day" in March. Fast forward to November; USC entered the picture by being the lone school to offer Abasirihad after his commitment to Minnesota. After USC's offer, Abasirihad decided to take a visit to Southern California. Abasirihad's December 9th visit must've left a big impression on him, as he subsequently decommitted from Minnesota two days later.
Today, Abasirihad announced that he is committing to USC, just days before the early signing period deadline on December 20th. According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, new USC defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn played a big factor in landing Abasirihad.
"The best thing about USC is all the connections you make and all the different kinds of people you’ll meet. The school sets you up for so much more than football.... Coach Lynn’s defensive scheme and how he’ll play me in it... There’s just a lot more opportunities out here than Minnesota".
The 6-5 290-pound Abasirihad played all along the defensive line at Prior Lake High School. Given his size, he projects as an interior defensive lineman in D'Anton Lynn's defense. Abasirihad becomes the 18th commit in the Trojan's 2024 class.
