When it comes to athletics, the University of Southern California has been making some very impressive strides over the past couple of months especially in terms of preparing for the future. A number of their programs have successfully targeted some of the best high school talent across the nation early on and been able to get them to commit to the university.

We saw this happen specifically with the men's volleyball team earlier this year and now as they prepare for their 2024 season, VolleyballMag has given the number one freshman class ranking in the country.

"In what

referred to as a "photo finish," the Trojans' class claimed the top spot in the rankings by narrowly edging out UC Santa Barbara and Hawai'i. The class rankings are voted on by a panel of NCAA Division I and Division II men's volleyball head coaches and classes are made up of incoming freshmen, new international player, and transfer student-athletes."

The rankings were released on August 28 and with middle blocker Wes Smith, outside hitter Jack Ebertin and defender Brad Pan leading the way for this new group, the Trojans have a young core to build around for the next couple of seasons.

Being named the top freshman class is no small feat especially after a 2023 campaign that saw USC go just 10-16 on the year and lose to Stanford in round one of the MPSF tournament.

This could be the start of something very special in Souther California so make sure you tune in this season!
