USC Women's Lacrosse: Trojans Defeat VCU, Improve To 4-1 Record
Your 5-2 women's lacrosse team, the No. 17-ranked club in the nation, vanquished the 1-5 Virginia Commonwealth University Rams on Tuesday at Cary Street Field in Richmond, Virginia, to the tune of a 17-14 victory. It was their first encounter in either program's history.
The squad was propelled by Maggie Brown's five goals (all achieved during the contest's first half). Redshirt freshman Hannah Barron notched her inaugural career goal, while redshirt junior Isabelle Vitale notched two goals and four dimes.
Defensively, the squad was led by junior goalie Mia Fleming, though two other goalies were utilized. Kayla Frank, a grad student transfer, logged two turnovers.
With the game essentially out of hand in the fourth frame, several young Trojans were given plenty of run, including freshman goalkeeper Annie Shields and redshirt sophomore Callie Cirilli.
Next up, the Women of Troy will square off against Temple University, in a 1 p.m. matchup Friday in Carson, California, at Dignity Health Sports Park. Something's got to give, as both squads will sport identical 5-2 records heading into their encounter.
